Hyderabad

I recently visited Hyderabad on a college trip where we had loads and loads of fun. After an 18 hour long train journey we reached the city of pearls at the break of dawn. As the train entered the city we saw the Hussein Sagar lake all illuminated, welcoming us warmly. After checking into the hotel, having a wholesome breakfast and getting ready we headed towards the Birla museum where we saw everything from dinosaur fossils to ancient sculptures to complex machines. From there we went to the Birla temple which is made of white marble and has a wonderful view from the top. But my poor camera could not capture it because it was not allowed inside. In the evening we went for the Golconda sound and light show. Here the fort comes to life and narrates its story in sound and light which is beautiful.

The next day we went to the Salar Jung Museum, the third largest museum in the world which houses a great collection of exhibits belonging to various civilizations. After having a look at the museum we went to the snowy snow world where we enjoyed the fun rides, danced in the snow, had snowball fights and clicked a lot of pictures. In the evening we went for the Lumbini park laser show which was amazing. After the show we went to the Hussein Sagar lake for a boat cruise. The performances on board were so horrifying that they even made me think of jumping into the lake! But later to my relief the dance floor was open to the people on board. The lake looked breathtakingly beautiful at night gleaming with street lights.

The following day we went to the Charminar, the famous landmark of the city and the Mecca Masjid which is one of the largest mosque in the world accommodating up to 10,000 worshippers. The mosque got its name from the stones used for its construction which were imported from Mecca. Later we shopped from the bustling streets of Meena Bazaar which is adjacent to Mecca Masjid and Charminar. Meena Bazaar is famous for its glass bangles. For lunch we had the famous Hyderabadi biryani which is a must have. In the afternoons during our free time after lunch we used to filp through south indian channels to get a glimpse of Tollywood.

We spent our last day in Hyderabad at the Ramoji Film City which is the largest film studio complex in the world. It is a complex consisting of various film sets including fountains, landscaped gardens and other multi-purpose sets. They have special buses to tour the complex. We were also given a demonstration of how special effects and sounds are added to a film. There were also fun rides and other entertainment programs and we ended up clicking a hell lot of pictures. We had to leave early in order to reach on time for our train back to Mumbai but ended up spending more than two hours in the parking lot of Hyderabad station. Finally we boarded our train and reached home tired and weary from a trip we all enjoyed.

About Hyderabad:
  • Trying the Hyderabadi biryani is a must.
  • Freshly baked biscuits from the Karachi bakerey are yumm!!
  • Best buys are cultured pearls and glass bangles.
