Lake District

Like Scarborough, my university had organized another 'give it a go' session, this time a trip to Lake District. The Lake District, also known as 'The Lakes' comprises of 15 lakes and has some of the highest peaks in England including Scafell Pike and Helvellyn. The area is bestowed upon with natural beauty and is the home to one of the most prominent figures of English Literature: William Wordsworth (Daffodils)

After a 2 hour bus ride from Leeds, we arrived at Windermere which is the biggest lake in Lake District. After some food, we hopped on to 'the Red Cruise' and headed towards the hills. The cruise from Bowness to Ambelside and back was just so beautiful that I could not stop clicking photos!! 

After the 70 minute cruise we went to Orrest Head, taking a bus from Bowness to Windermere Hotel. From Windermere Hotel, Orrest Head is a good 20 minute walk (I'd rather say an uphill climb!!). The path is well marked and once you reach the top, the view is definitely worth the climb. The path to the top through the woodland reminded me of the movie: 'p.s I love you' and quite resembles the place where Holly and Gerry meet!! (yes I did watch the movie the next day, it is one of my favorites :P) This place is pretty much like Ireland (first on my European travel agenda) with sheep grazing in farmlands, dog walkers, the town and the Lake!!  

Due to shortage of time we could not visit the Beatrix Potter attraction which is a children's museum that takes you through the life and work of Beatrix Potter, where all 23 of her magical tales come to life. We also could not see St. Martin's church from the inside. The church was originally built in 1203 but a new church was erected after a fire in 1483 and has some unique decorative murals dating back to the 16th centuary.

According to me, Lake District is definitely worthy of a visit and is one of the most beautiful places in north-west England.
